What is OpenNolan?
OpenNolan is a Mac app where an AI agent turns your raw clips into a finished, scroll-stopping vertical video — Instagram Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts. It adds B-roll, music, sound effects, captions, and motion for you, then lets you fine-tune any cut on a real timeline.
Can I download OpenNolan yet?
Yes — the free public beta is out now. Download the .dmg, drag it to Applications, and open it. It's signed and notarized by Apple, so there's no security warning to click through. No account, no credit card.
What do I need to run the beta?
An Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or later) on macOS 13 or later. The download is ~600 MB because the app bundles its own Python and Node runtimes — you don't install anything else. The first launch runs a one-time setup that fetches the video toolchain, so give it a few minutes and an internet connection. Intel Macs and Windows aren't supported yet — leave your email and we'll tell you when they are.
What does “beta” actually mean here?
The app works end to end — you can make and export a real reel today — but expect rough edges, and expect it to change fast. It updates itself, so you stay on the newest build without re-downloading. If something breaks or feels wrong, send feedback — it goes straight to the developer, and beta reports are what shape 1.0.
How much does it cost?
It's free and open source. OpenNolan uses bring-your-own-key: you add your own AI provider key and pay those providers directly, with no subscription, no markup, and no account required.
Do I need to know how to edit video?
No. That's the whole point. The AI agent makes the entire reel from your clips — you don't touch a timeline unless you want to. It's built for founders and builders who'd rather ship product than become video editors.
What can the AI agent actually do?
It pulls B-roll and images from the web, adds music and sound effects, writes and styles burned-in captions, makes rapid cuts, and animates motion — all tuned for the vertical 9:16 frame. You can adjust anything afterward on a real timeline.
Where does my footage live — is it private?
OpenNolan is a native macOS app that runs locally, so your footage stays on your machine. It's local-first and private — nothing is uploaded to our servers to make your video.
